NorthStar Education Partners collaborated with Skew the Script to develop a strategic plan aimed at achieving long-term sustainability and accelerating programmatic impact. This partnership was designed to leverage Skew the Script’s dynamic leadership team and high-quality content to create a clear path for growth and success.

Objectives

Skew the Script partnered with NorthStar to:

  1. Develop a strategy for long-term organizational sustainability by analyzing the competitive landscape and internal assets, expanding earned revenue, reducing reliance on philanthropy, and clarifying business goals and priorities.
  2. Accelerate programmatic impact by refining existing services, developing staffing and internal capabilities, and systematically advancing impact.

Mission Statement

Skew the Script is actively disrupting traditional math instruction by creating relevant and exciting math content that inspires students to learn and love math. Skew the Script aims to close achievement gaps for underserved students and prepare all students to think critically as citizens.

Key Activities & Deliverables

Phase I: Competitive Landscape and Current State Review

  • Competitive Landscape Scan: Conducted a comprehensive analysis of the external landscape, providing recommendations for product positioning and future capabilities.
  • Current State Review: Evaluated internal strengths and opportunities, identifying key questions to address in the strategic planning process.

Phase II: Strategic Plan Development

  • Organizational Strategic Plan: Crafted a refined vision, mission, and organizational goals and priorities for the next five years.
  • Service-Level Playbooks: Developed detailed playbooks for services such as SkewU, Bootcamps, and Adopt a Lesson, including go-to-market strategies and answers to strategic questions identified in the current state review.
  • Revenue-Generating Strategy: Created a financial and growth model to chart a pathway for long-term sustainability.

Phase III: Implementation Planning

  • Implementation Plan: Identified key actions for the first year of the strategic plan, outlining clear steps for execution.
  • Branded Strategic Plan Document: Produced a comprehensive and branded document incorporating all deliverables, suitable for sharing with the Gates Foundation and other stakeholders.

The collaboration resulted in a detailed strategic plan and implementation roadmap that positions Skew the Script for sustained impact.
