Overview
NorthStar Education Partners collaborated with KIPP Philadelphia Schools (KPS) to develop and implement a comprehensive regional talent strategy. This collaboration aimed to align KPS’s recruitment, development, evaluation, retention, and compensation systems with a clear talent vision grounded in the region’s unique culture and context.
Objectives
KIPP Philadelphia Schools partnered with NorthStar to:
- Regional Talent Vision and Framework: Develop a shared regional talent vision and strategy grounded in national best practices and aligned with the region’s strategic plan, priorities, and values.
- Teacher and Leader Excellence: Create a shared vision of excellence for teachers, principals, APs, and Grade Level Chairs, including job descriptions, competency rubrics, and performance measures.
- Board Engagement: Fully engage KPS’s regional board, leadership team, and principals in the process of developing a regional talent strategy.

- Job Descriptions and Competency Models: Developed and aligned job descriptions, competency models, and performance measures for principals and APs.
- Teacher Observation Rubric: Created a regionally aligned and adopted teacher observation rubric and student growth measures.
Board Engagement
- Board Workshops: Conducted workshops with the KPS board to deeply engage them in the emerging talent strategy.
- Input and Investment: Sought board members’ input and secured their investment in KPS’s multi-year talent strategy.
